Sheriff Tim Smith – Fleming County Sheriff’s Office Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Fleming County Sheriff’s Office. I’m Tim Smith, Fleming County Sheriff. I was elected in November of 2022 to serve a 4-year term.

Five Main Roles of the Sheriff’s Office

There are five main roles of the Sheriff’s Office:

  1. We collect taxes
  2. We do our local law enforcement – where we respond to calls and assist the population as needed
  3. We do court security
  4. We serve civil summons
  5. I’m a member of the election committee to make sure that the elections are run correct and legal

My Background

My background – I’ve retired from the Kentucky Army National Guard. I’ve got 22 years of service, deployed to Iraq twice. I worked here locally for the Flemingsburg Police Department for many years, worked at the Sheriff’s Office, and also had a couple years with Maysville Police Department before becoming elected sheriff here.

Services We Provide

The Fleming County Sheriff’s Office is here to assist you in whatever needs you have. We also provide the CCDW licensing, so you can come and apply with us at the sheriff’s office. We also do vehicle inspections – it’s $5 currently for a vehicle inspection (Note: Current fee is $15), so out of state vehicles need to be inspected for Kentucky registration.

Office Hours & Contact

Our office hours are 8 to 4:30, Monday through Friday, but you can always reach a deputy on duty 24 hours a day if you have questions or concerns.

If you call the sheriff’s office after hours, your call will automatically be forwarded to the Fleming County Dispatch. If you want to call the Fleming County Dispatch non-emergency line, you can call them at 606-845-2121.

Community Support

We encourage each of you to get out and support your local businesses. The local businesses are what this community thrives on. Being involved in a lot of community oriented sports like youth soccer, we desperately need the support of the businesses here in Fleming County. They have been such an asset to us to help all of our youth soccer players grow tremendously.

We look forward to continuing building a better Fleming County.
