On Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 12:32pm, Fleming County Dispatch received a 911 call from Michael Jones of 1040 Goddard Covered Bridge Road of a possible burglary in progress. Once units arrived on scene, they attempted to contact Jones who would not answer the door. Deputies looked in the front window and observed Mr. Jones standing in the kitchen behind a bar.
Chief Deputy Conn was able to make contact with Jones by phone and was telling him to come to the door. Jones stated that he could not come to the door. Both Deputies tried to talk to Jones through the window but Jones ignored the Deputies commands to show his hands or to come to the front door.
Chief Deputy Conn returned to his vehicle to try and establish communication with the PA system while Deputy McIntyre continued to try and communicate with Mr. Jones through the front window. Deputy McIntyre observed Mr. Jones arm himself with a shotgun and was in the process of raising it towards the window that Deputy McIntyre was positioned in front of. Deputy McIntyre left the front porch of the residence and took up a tactical position of cover with Chief Deputy Conn at his cruiser.
Chief Deputy Conn continued to try and make contact with Mr. Jones via his PA and telephone. Mr. Jones then fired several shots out the front window of his residence towards the Deputies position.
After numerous attempts to establish contact and directing Mr. Jones to come to the front door unarmed, Mr. Jones came out of the residence and walked towards the Deputies armed with a semi-automatic pistol. Both Deputies gave Jones numerous verbal commands to drop his weapon which after several commands he complied. At which time he retrieved a second semi-automatic pistol from his coat pocket. Deputies again gave him commands to drop the firearm and he complied.
Mr. Jones was then taken into custody without further incident. Mr. Jones was lodged in the Mason County Detention Center and charged with two counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st degree. Chief Deputy Conn and Deputy McIntyre were assisted at the scene by Fleming County Sheriff Sergeant Logan Mullins and Deputy Adam Burns, Flemingsburg Police Chief Brian Bowling, and KSP Post 8 Trooper Tyler Smith, Trooper Nathan Shortridge, and Trooper Mike Armstrong, and Fleming County EMS
