On Sunday October 27, SGT Mullins, conducted a traffic stop on Morehead Rd on Mr.
On Sunday October 27, SGT Mullins, conducted a traffic stop on Morehead Rd on Mr. Troy Gilbert of Flemingsburg KY. SGT Mullins was assisted on scene by Deputy Welch, K9 Rex and OFC Workman of FPD. During the traffic stop, Deputy Welch utilized his partner Rex, who had a positive hit on the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle and surrounding area, deputies located approx 2.4oz (approx 68 grams) of methamphetamine. SGT Mullins charged Mr. Gilbert with Trafficking a Controlled Substance 1st degree – Methamphetamine, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Careless Driving.

Fleming County Sheriff’s Office K9 Rex has received donation of body armor
Fleming County Sheriff’s Office, KY, K9 Rex has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Rex’s vest was sponsored by Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs and embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherds”.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,794 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. “No Sheriff Stands Alone”
Several Sheriffs’ Offices across the Commonwealth came together to help Russell County Sheriffs Office while they were dealing with the tragic loss of Deputy Joshua Phipps. Three Fleming County Deputies (James Welch, Rex and Dustin Cooper) volunteered to help cover calls for service. We will continue to pray for Russell County and all of the brave men and women who serve and protect.
