This morning, at approximately 6am, the Fleming County Sheriffs office, along with the Ewing FD, Fleming Co EMS, KSP and the Fleming Co Coroner responded to a fatal collision between a vehicle and a dirt bike on Ewing Rd. The operator of the dirt bike was pronounced deceased on site. The roadway was closed for several hours while Law Enforcement worked the collision.

Fleming County Sheriff’s Office K9 Rex to get donation of body armor
Fleming County Sheriff’s Office, KY, K9 Rex will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Rex’s vest is sponsored by Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherds”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 5,707 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. The Fleming County Sheriff’s Office, Tilton Fire Dept and State Highway are still working to clear Mt Sterling Road near Tilton. We are currently detouring traffic around Old Tilton Rd.
On Saturday morning, July 13th, 2024, Sheriff Smith charged Billy Hall of Wilson Run Rd, Wallingford with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.
Deputy Cooper responded to Hall’s residence and was assisting the Fleming County EMS with a medical issue. Hall was transported to the Fleming County Hospital by ambulance for a medical issue. Upon arrival, Hall quickly exited the ambulance and attempted to make entry through the first set of bay doors at the hospital. Hall, who was unprovoked, turned around and attacked Deputy Cooper with a knife that he had concealed during the transport. Deputy Cooper was able to quickly restrain Hall and provide first aid on himself, quickly applying his own tourniquet. The staff in the Emergency Room and Fleming County EMS immediately began giving aid to Deputy Cooper. Officer Hicks of the Flemingsburg Police Dept and I arrived shortly after the incident. Deputy Cooper was transported to UK Hospital by Fleming County EMS. Billy Hall was cleared by the Fleming County Hospital and transported to the Mason County Detention Center.
Deputy Cooper has been released from the hospital.

Here is the update to the changes coming up next week involving vehicle inspections. HB 833 will go into effect statewide on July 15th. Inspections must be completed by the sheriffs office before you transfer any vehicle with an out of state title or a salvage title.
The cost of a vehicle inspection done onsite at the Sheriffs Office changes from $5 to $15.
The cost of a vehicle inspection completed offsite will be $35 for the first vehicle and $15 for each additional vehicle (the 1st vehicle total includes a $20 fee for the offsite inspection)
Offsite inspection fee changes from $10 to $20.

On Saturday June 15, Deputy Cooper, along with Deputy Welch and K9 Rex conducted a traffic stop on Goddard Rd on Mr. William Flaugher of Covington KY. During the traffic stop, Deputy Welch utilized his partner Rex, who had a positive hit on the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, deputies located a magnetic box under the vehicle that contained over 12 grams of meth and marijuana. Deputy Cooper charged Mr. Flaugher with Trafficking 1st degree – Meth,
Trafficking Marijuana and a couple traffic offenses.
